Cancun, Mexico, Caribbean Coast

Cancun is Mexico’s premier resort destination, far outshining the role that Acapulco had once played for North America’s top holiday vacation nation. Zorianna explores the MS Antilla wreck

The MS Antilla was a German Cargo Ship that sunk on May 10, 1940 off the coast of Aruba. At that time, Germany was at war with the Netherlands. The Dutch Marines saw the anchored supply ship and demanded that it surrender. Rather than doing that, Antilla’s captain devised a plan to scuttle the ship. He heated up the boilers, exposed them to the cold seawater, which caused the Antilla to explode and sink in 8 minutes. The captain and his crew fled on lifeboats, but were captured several days later. At nearly 400 feet long, the Antilla is one of the largest wrecks in the Caribbean.

Water temperatures were unseasonably cool, but the local inhabitants didn’t seem to mind. We captured some great footage of sharks, rays, turtles and night creatures.
